Christmas is a celebration of the birth of our saviour, but sometimes we get so lost in all the festivities that we forget that Jesus is at the centre of it all.
“And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
“And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)
These scriptures amongst many others in the Bible foreshadow the birth of Jesus Christ. Eve allowed herself to be tempted by the serpent which caused her and Adam to bring sin into the world. Jesus came into the world so that we could have victory over sin and be reconciled with our heavenly father.
“It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore. “
Our sins separate us from God but Christ came into the world and died so that we could be made right with him.
‘’Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.’’
Sin enslaves us and wedges a gap between us and God, but Christ came so that we could be set free.
‘’Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.’’
Jesus represents salvation, freedom, victory, reconciliation, love, mercy, peace… the list goes on…
But this is why we celebrate his birth.
I’m sure everybody has been running around trying to get the food and presents sorted ahead of Christmas. As we celebrate with our family and friends, let us remember the true essence of Christmas, Jesus Christ.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas filled with the love, joy and peace of the Lord.
