Brother Kanye’s recent conversion, Sunday services and album release have generated a lot of uproar on social media this month. Some people feel that this is a gimmick and that he is profiting off of Jesus’ name.
‘He preaches “Yeezus” in order to $ale mu$ic.’
Whereas others are more in support of his transition…
‘Thoughts on Kanye West’s new album “Jesus is King”:
The authenticity of his conversion is being questioned and some feel like he is making a mockery of the Christian faith.
In the age of social media there has been a rise in the number of ‘Christian influencers’ and sadly what tends to happen a lot of the time is that people begin to idolise these individuals and set their standard of living according to the word of the influencers and not according to the word of God.
Kanye has a lot of influence and he is a very vocal person, known for his radical outbursts; so people are worried about the influence he could have on Christian faith.
But whatever you hear, whether Kanye, your mum, your dad, your grandma, your best friend or if your Sunday pastor said it, you have to check for yourself whether it aligns with the word of God or not.
‘And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. ‘
Godly council is important but whatever ‘words of wisdom’ you get, you should cross- check them with the scriptures. Many Christians worldwide are being misled to do things with no scriptural backing whatsoever by people that they trust and look up to.
Accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal saviour is the best decision one could ever make. It is a personal decision that has got nothing to do with anyone else apart from you and Jesus.
‘I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me. ‘
For all those debating about whether Kanye is a Christian or not…. Jesus knows his sheep!
What matters is that the sheep follow the perfect example of our shepherd Jesus Christ who is the perfect example. None of us are perfect; we are all imperfect humans being continually perfected by the grace of God. The Christian walk is not easy as we are called to a higher standard but God has given us everything that we need to live out the lives that he has called us to.
2 Peter 1:3
‘His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. ‘
The gift of salvation is a beautiful thing; it is something to be celebrated. New converts especially need the body of Christ to get behind them and encourage them in the ways of the Lord.
‘Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. ‘
Anyone who has been a Christian for any length of time knows that it is not always smooth sailing… there are ups, downs and roundabouts but God is a patient, faithful and merciful God who loves us through the process.
Do not be conformed to this world, but continuously be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God’s will is—what is proper, pleasing, and perfect.
The transformation process is an on-going process and God has given his word and the Holy Spirit to continually renew our minds.
As we are all being continuously transformed, let us meet each other with love and mercy.
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
